As far as I'm concerned, none, as long as they don't claim to be female IRL if asked. Same goes for females playing males.

I thought that's why they call it RolePlaying.
Role playing is not only limited to the profession you take.

... but then again, aren't imature/rude/arrogant 10 year olds impersonating adults in-game?

Considering that most players are guys I, like amy other players just over generalize and assume everybody is a guy no matter what model they are using. Yeah, not right.. but it's the way it is.

I even have male names on my female models..lol

The only problem I would ever see with anyone playing a female character is using it to get stuff from people. I don't think that is very nice. Obviously a very naive person will believe that what they see is what they get with this game. It just seems wrong to take advantage of those people.

I only have one character with a male name. I think it is absolutely hysterical too! This runty little warrior girl with pig tails, running around with the name "Iron Mike Tyson". Of course it is only because I am a boxing fan, odd for someone of my gender to be into boxing but oh well.

Characters in game are hardly adults (only some male rangers are). And that really got nothing to do with their gender and gender of their characters.

<-- female in real life

All my characters are male bar one, my Assassin as I for once preferred the female skin over the male.

Apart from that, I find the female skins very boring to play with. I tire of the female chars I've made very quickly. Designing a male character just the way I want it makes it a lot more interesting to me - especially Rangers, but male skins kind of goes for everything I've ever played in GW bar from the Assassin.. and yes, this way I also avoid the "wanna have cex?" people..

I also made me an anti-macho male Warrior just for fun; as short as possible, as pale as possible with one of the least used faces and an ugly hair do. I thought I'd be bored with this one too - but I grew rather attached to this character instead and he turned out to be a real keeper.

My husband plays almost solely female characters for the very same reason as me, he just finds the female ones more fun to play than the males.

I play some of each. In my case, I really wanted a monk but none of the female monks in Prophecies really appealed to me, so I created a male one instead. Same with my Factions ranger - the combos that jumped out at me as being cool were male ones.

I don't think gender is all that big of a deal in a game like this anyway (or at least, it hasn't been for me). The other night, I was playing with a group of guys who didn't seem to believe I was actually female (that, or they liked teasing me that I was the only female there). Female character, too. Most people assume I'm male back behind the character, and I usually don't bother correcting them.

I personally play whichever sex looks better for a particular character. I have a female mesmer, because in my opinion the male mesmer looks kinda fruity. I have a female ranger because the male ranger looks like a homeless bum, to me. I have two male and one female Warriors, because my male warriors are made to look like Diablo 2 Barbarians. :P

Some of them just look better. :\

<-- also female

I hate all the male models except the Mesmer, and all the female models except the Ranger (my favorite class) and the Ritualist. The female Ranger armor is just uninspiring. The only one I actually liked in Prophecies was the 1.5k Druid's set, though I'm getting increasingly fond of the Kurzick sets now. The female monk and necro models just have weird animation. The male warrior is so ugly that I prefer the female model, though I don't particularly care for the female's proportions and find that hammers look just silly in their dainty hands. The female assassin is anorexic (so is the male) and all her armors look idiotic. (I was really disappointed with the assassin armors.)

In summary: when playing monks, necros, mesmers, and assassins, I pick the male model. For warriors, ritualists, and rangers, the female. Never play eles because I can't stand that class.

I'm female, and all of my chars are female too. Like other posters, this is because I prefer the female skin/face/hair choices.

Although having said that, I've had a harder time with female Factions chars; I don't know if it's just me, but lots of the faces seem a little too made up - bright pink lipstick, streaks of blush etc. I'm not sure my Warrior has time to stop and re-apply her lippy during a tangle with some Afflicted

Of course her goddess-like physique, heaving bosom, and permanently-perfect hair are unrealistic too I guess... but I can live with that... In fact I wish I DID live with that

My partner plays with a mixture of male and female chars, and has said that his easiest journeys through the game have been with his female warrior and ranger - never had to wait for a PUG, never got abuse for messing up etc.

I don't see anything wrong with the female monk animations. I do like the male animations better, but I can't stand the way male monks stand so I stuck with a female. And I dislike the look of female necros. I tried playing one twice and could never stick with it. It was only when I created a male necro that I finally got into playing the profession. Necros should look badass, but the female ones usually look like over-tattooed bums or porcelain dolls. Perhaps Factions has better choices--I haven't checked.

It was a toss-up for me when creating my sin. The male sins look good, but I just felt like playing a female. Though their bodies are more like that of an adolescent boy.

That's so true. I chose the lesser of all evils for my female monk, but she looks just a little too pretty and perfect...

As a male playing female characters exclusively, here are my thoughts on the matter:

Most of the male characters in GW are modeled after stupid ideals of how Real Men(TM) are supposed to look. The same is also true for the female ones with their thin anorectic builds, but at least the idea of playing a female hero feels a lot "fresher" to me. There's nothing stupider than the "heroic muscleman" stereotype... Well maybe the female ele and her slutty dance - that's pretty darn stupid. A male warrior or a female ele would definitely be the LAST things I'd make in GW. My first character was a female warrior, dark skinned and as big as I could make her. She's awesome...I just wish I could have made her with thicker arms. That brought the idea that I would fill my character roster with all female heroes, and that's what I'm doing.

I understand the guys who say they prefer to look at a female character, but I think I come from a slightly different angle: I mean, why the heck would I want to look at some idiotic brawn-for-brains-looking, overpumped male character model when I could have a cool, female hero? I'm actually surprised the ladies haven't said similar things about the female character models. If I was a woman, I think I may have preferred to play male characters for the same reason.

I identify with my female characters, but not in a sexual way. I'm way too hetero to get into that sort of thing - so if anything, all my characters are asexual. I can still connect to them, and they all feel a little different to play. My warrior is happy, fun-loving and outgoing. My necro is introvert, almost insecure - I don't like playing PUGs with her. My monk is a lonewolf, but often steps up to coordinate a party when the need arises. My ranger is crafty and decisive, but maybe a bit too stubborn at times.

That's the way I play GW, and I've had a LOT of fun doing it.

Well, if there's anything this thread has shown, it's that everyone has their own reasons for choosing male/female characters. I prefer to play female characters--I only play males when I don't like the female head/hair choices or something else about their looks. I've played enough games that don't give you the choice of what gender to play--you have to play a male--that it's always nice to be able to play a female when given the opportunity. I can only think of a couple of games where you had to play a female (Tomb Raider series and No One Lives Forever series come to mind).

In another discussion about male and female looks in games, someone made the point that most character models are designed with the male player in mind, so the females are always made to look sexy/pretty, and the males are always made to look like what the average guy wishes he looked like (though, of course, most don't IRL).

The next sentence I type is what people really want to hear.

I'm a male who plays female characters because I'm a sexual deviant.

That having been said--

Get over it.

I guess none of the males here ever played Chun Li on Street Fighter, either. Or Metroid, for that matter.
